Module 5 - Painting from the inside out
In this module you will work from your imagination. Use your inspiration wall and sketch books to spark ideas and even work from sketches if you find that you struggle relying only on your imagination.
I'd love you to explore working purely intuitively too, promise yourself you will try this at least. Exercise one is great for this. It is challenging but be Brave in Paint. The more you do the easier it will become.
'Painting from the Inside Out' can allow memories, feelings, the personal, and maybe even the magical to escape from you.
In this module, narrative could come into play more. You might even want to experiment with the inclusion of figures - particularly if you're an illustrator. Or you may simply use the entire module to explore colour using simple vessel shapes.
You may have already discovered an aspect of still life or a technique that excites you that you are eager to pursue, do that, by working from your imagination only.
If you have a love of colour and pattern you could set out to invent exciting interiors for your still-life painting. Difficult perhaps, but perhaps not. It depends on the sort of artist you are.
If you're learning to paint with acrylics during this course then continue to see what you can do with your paint without any pressure to represent what's in front of you.
Allow the child in you to emerge during "bringing the inside out"; not worrying overly about the logic of scale and perspective.
Read through all the material and do the first exercise to see what naturally comes up for you before deciding on what else you want to work on.
